Happy 35th Jenn!

35 years of the most amazing girl we know!  The talented, beautiful, funny, adventurous, spunky, tough, compassionate, faithful and loving Jenn T Wright!

You really can't do any justice to these unbelievable 35 years by placing them in a book but we can try!

Jenn is fiercely devoted and loving!  To me! To her boys!  She is their greatest cheerleader!  She loves her friends and family and works so hard to connect us!  That is one of Jenn's great gifts. She is a connector!  She organizes us and brings us together!

She is incredibly beautiful!

Crazy beautiful!

The kind of beauty that literally stops you in your tracks!  You say to yourself, that girl has got to be the most beautiful girl that I will ever see!  It is astonishing!

One time a lady in Vegas actually did stop her and said, "Dang B!  You have the most beautiful hair I have ever seen!"  True story. It really happens all the time!  (Jenn, that does not happen to us regular folk)

And Jenn is so fun!

And silly!

I wonder where my boys get it?...

I now know where they got that!

But also, she loves animals too!

Mostly cats... Lately she likes other people's cats.  The kind that don't leave her coat furry and pee in her house.

She doesn't love fishing but she is willing to take one for the team...

Jenn curled up in the dirt at the Green-- taking one for said team...

Jenn in the car on the way home!

She may not love fishing, but she is a tough girl!!

Spunk!

You may think otherwise, but I think she looks tough in this soccer pic.
A proven trek pioneer!

She is a lot more compassionate and loving than she is tough though...

She has a gift with kids. She brings smiles to their faces and helps them feel loved and needed!  This little girl with the puffy cheeks below is Esmaralda. Her thinning hair and puffy cheeks show that she is malnourished. She loved tapping on our door and having cereal and cream of wheat with us. She always asked Jenn for Chocolate. Her life was rough but Jenn made her smile and lightened her burdens.  They loved her!

That's what makes Jenn such a great teacher!
Jenn's pic as an elementary teacher.

And such an great, concerned, loving Mom!

Have you ever known a more blessed girl!  Jenn-- you are so loved!  And look at this bunch of righteous young boys she devotes her life in service to!  They will be such great missionaries and husbands and dads thanks to their faithful mom!

She's adventurous!  Rarely will she pass up a good adventure!

She is a bit crazy sometimes!  But willing to tackle her fears!

Black sandy beaches -- awesome!

Dengue fever that followed -- not awesome!

Every night she is there for scripture study and prayer without fail!  She is a woman of awesome faith and devotion to the Savior!  And she is dedicated to sharing that faith with her family!

Gardening at the temple in the rain!  What a huge experience for the boys!

Sacrifice for her family!  Having babies can lead to surgeries. 😕  One hernia surgery and one meniscus tear to be exact!  Such a loving and selfless sacrifice!

She doesn't love this pic but it's camping in the middle of the Grand Canyon! How awesome is that!

I am married to the girl of my dreams! And since the girl of my dreams is you Jenn that makes me the most blessed guy on this planet!  We have known each other for over 16 years now and married for 14!  How amazing have those years been? So much fun growing old with you!

Happy Birthday Mom!  We have some fun memories!  Remember when we jumped in the freezing lake in Washington?  Or went swimming in the crater at Midway?  I remember when I had nightmares and you helped me.  You told me that it was happening on the other side of the world and I felt good and was able to sleep again.  Thank You for taking care of me.  You always help me with my homework.  You work really hard for us.  You encourage me to do things that I wouldn't normally do without you telling me.  You love me.  I love you -- Keaton

Happy Birthday Mom!

I liked going skiing with you on the bunny hill!  And we went on the slides at the aquatic center!  When we went hiking, do you remember where we went up to the top of the mountain?  And we saw the 3 dogs?  Do you remember that I jumped out and scared you?  I like to watch movies with you because it’s fun!  Sometimes you laugh and it is funnier!  I like when you make Beef Strogenaff, Pizza, Spagetti with meatballs, and homemade bread!  It’s my favorite!  I also like your strawberry and raspberry jam the most! I love you mom! -- Jonas

The fist time I met Jenn was briefly at BYU Hawaii.  I remember thinking that she had amazing hair!
After BYU Hawaii we happened to be lucky enough to be in Jenn and Jason’s Young Marrieds ward.  Kimo and I adoringly referred to them as Mr. and Mrs. Institute (:.
One of my favorite funny memories is when we were on a trip with three babies to Arizona (Court, Jaxon, and Keaton.) Keaton was only a few months old and he happened to slip off the bed.  Jen was so upset and Keaton was just fine. haha.  Jason ended up having to calm Jenn down rather than Keaton. I am fairly certain that he was part of a run away stroller incident on the same trip.
Some things I like best about Jenn are: Jenn has a fiery personality.  I love that she has a lot of emotion about things.  Jenn is also very “down to earth”.  She is absolutely beautiful to look at and it seems that she never gives is a second thought. The thing that I like very best about Jenn is her ability to make everyone around her a better person.  Jen is so beautiful both on the inside and the outside and she inspires those around her to be the same.  She is so thoughtful in all that she does and is genuinely concerned with those around her. She is a great example of having unwavering faith in the things she believes in.  She is a strong, consistent, and loving mother to her boys. Jen is someone that I look up to very much.  I am so glad that I have been blessed with her friendship.
Happy Birthday Jenn!!
Love,
Aspen

Jenn, happy birthday to such an amazing friend. I have known you now for almost 14 years. What a fulfilling time that has been for me. I can't remember exactly how we met. But that lost memory is made up for in many other ones! I remember the house you renovated on 29th streetand how close you were living to us. It was fun to drop by and see you, sharing day to day events with you. I remember going to the movies with you and being entertained by the constant emotional and verbal reactions you displayed! I remember the baby you lost from miscarriage and the time I was able to spend providing a small comfort to you. I remember many adventurous conversations and laughter shared together. What I don't have to remember, but know in my heart, is what a generous and thoughtful friend I have in you! I love you Jenn! I hope your birthday is as fabulous as you!!  Melinda

Happy Birthday my Sweet Friend! I hope you know how much you are loved and Adored on your Birthday!
I just simply love you to death. I feel like your my extra bonus Sister! So very Blessed to have you in my life and experience all these fun memories together and being moms together.
From the moment I met you, I thought I don't know if she'll be my friend?, she is just too Gorgeous! I would sit behind you in Sunday School in our College Married Ward and stare at that Beautiful long hair in front of me. As you would toss and flip it around, I'm like oh ya, she is just too perfect!
I was intimidated by your absolute out of control "Cuteness". It was apparent after we officially met, we had girl chemistry that was instant. It was so easy to be friends with you and have fun. I love so many things about you. Your ability to make everyone around you feel loved, and accepted. You are a Geniune sweet thoughtful person that goes out of your way. You are up for anything, any adventure, any challenge, and any learning opportunity. You are Humble, Christlike, and an Amazing Mother. I look up to your example and always have marveled at your strong testimony of the gospel and unwavering faith. You are a Virtuous Woman!  I remember as young couples, before we had kids, we were picking out swimming suits and I said, Jen,"why don't you wear a bikini?, you would look so good in one", you said, " I don't feel comfortable wearing that and don't feel it's modest." As I was good either way wearing one or not, being that it was before kids, you reminded me about what being a virtuous women is. You weren't judgmental or rude about it, just " it's not for me" way of saying it. I have always remembered that, and have learned from your example. I love that you always read your scriptures every night no matter what and continue to be such an Amazing example to everyone around you.
Oh Jen, we have so many fun memories! Disney Land with our boys and Husbands, Arizona with our boys and Husbands, numerous Beautiful Hikes, Lake Powell, Christmas Parties, Wolfcreek, lots of fun date nights and of course girls nights! I think our bond grew stronger the day we came to the hospital to see sweet Keaton for the 1st time and he was struggling nursing. Next thing we knew I was taking my Nursing skills to a whole nudda level! Haha! ( and that's when we became sisters) you didn't know I was a lactation specialists! Haha!
But hey, we did it! Keaton nursed like a champ and we both fell in love with Nursing our little ones.  I love that we have always shared that love and passion for nursing. It has been so fun to have kids together and experience the ups and downs of motherhood. My heart broke into pieces as I watched your heart be crushed as you welcomed baby boy 3 and baby 4 into your family. This was not what you had planned on and not in the "plans" as we came to see you after you heard the news of Jude, you fell into my arms crying and I wanted to just make it all better, but couldn't. That was so hard for you and I totally understood your pain. I knew that you loved your boys more than anything but longed for a baby girl so badly. I marveled at the way you handled disappointment and you put a smile on your face and continued to be Happy Jen and happy for others that had what you wanted at the time. That is a hard thing to do. You are so strong, so unselfish and such an amazing Momma! Your 4 boys are so very blessed to have you as their mom. You are someone I can't always count on and who would do anything for me. I love you dearly. If you can't tell, we had to make sure to be guaranteed your friends till we are 99 years old. We are so happy we get to keep having such fun memories together as we live by each other and raise our kiddos. How blessed are we to be your neighbors soon. We can't wait! Love you Sista! Happy Birthday! Amazing that you look 25 though) not fair!
Aly

Hi Jenn-

I am so happy to write a little something about you for your 35th!  Wow we are getting old!  But I look back on pictures and you still look exactly the same!  Jenn you have always been such a great, fun, reliable, thoughtful friend.  You really helped my freshman year be a fun and exciting experience.  I remember after meeting Heidi an my roommates, and meeting many of our neighbors... thinking we were pretty limited on good friend options... we saw you and Malia down below and I instantly knew we would be friends!  A couple NORMAL cute girls :)  And we did have a lot of fun! Boating, camping, hot pots, and road trips.  My favorite thing about you Jenn, is that you are a fun, energetic friend always willing to do fun and new things, but still always stick to your standards and influence others around you to do the same!  You made it easy for me to stand up for what I believed, even being surrounded by people who didn't feel the same, and still have fun!  You always loved EVERYONE and made everyone around you feel loved and welcome!  You are one of my best friends still, even though we only hear from each other once or twice a year!  I love you Jenn and I am so lucky to be your friend!

Katie

Happy Birthday Dear Jenn!!
Doesn't time fly by?? Seems like yesterday we were all hanging out together in our little apartments going to Weber State!! I feel so grateful we ended up in the same ward so we could meet you and Jason and spend the last 14 years making great memories.
It's fun to look back on all the things we've done, I have loved our summer play dates and couples dates of course. I especially loved our sleepover at Pineview Reservoir! I will treasure meeting each of your beautiful boys and holding them for the first time, and I even love the times we've shared our frustrations, sadness, and disappointments.
You are always so kind, thoughtful, and happy, not to mention gorgeous! I have learned so much from your example as a friend, wife and mother. I hope you know how wonderful you are, and what you mean to me. Thanks for always being my caring friend. I believe the best of life will always be yours as you always give others your best and I am so glad to be part of that. I'm excited for the next 14 years of friendship to come!!
Love you girl!
Candace Stone

Happy 35th Birthday Jenn! I hope that I can be like you when I grow up. ;)  I definitely lucked out in the sister-in-law department. I hope you know what an amazing person you are. You are so thoughtful and generous, always thinking ahead of something nice to do for others. One of my favorite things about you is how you value quality time and you want to make the most of being with the people you love and doing the things that are most important. I have many fond memories of quality time with you, and the rest of the family, often because of an idea or an activity you initiated or planned. From day trips, play dates, family dinners and get-togethers, to weekend trips to stay at a condo, to longer trips to visit your family in Missouri, or for you to come visit us in Virginia or Washington, or adventures in Montana or Mexico, you make it a point to choose to do meaningful things with your time, and I so appreciate getting to be a part of those adventures. Especially since we’ve only lived in the same state for a few months at a time, you make it a point to make our time together count! It meant a great deal to me to have the experience of running the 10K with you and Kristina in Virginia during your visit to see Winchester. I know it’s not easy to make arrangements to be away (especially because I know how much you fit into a day!), but it was a BIG deal for us to have you visit and get to show you around our area. I had not trained well for the race and struggled much more than you two, but you were both gracious enough to slow down and stay with me rather than run at the pace you could have.  I love the way you live intentionally every day. You always have goals you’re working toward, new things to learn, lessons you want your children to learn, but you somehow manage to find a great balance between getting things done and enjoying the journey. I feel incredibly blessed to be your sister-in-law and to be a part of your family, because I get to learn from your great example. It also means I get to enjoy my journey more because I love spending time with you! I hope your 35th year is a wonderful one. If it’s anything like your other 34 years, I know you will make the most of it! ;)

If I wrote down all of the great memories with you this would be a novel. But a bunch came to mind as I wrote this. Here’s just a few: Going to the Oprah show in Chicago, staying in Nauvoo, staying at your house and exploring St. Louis (going to the top of the arch, eating yummy pizza, etc!), kayaking out to the seal rock in Mexico (the whole trip in general), going for a rejuvinating bike ride in Montana, taking the kiddos to the Tree house museum in Ogden, the Hill Air Force base, and to the Aquarium in South Jordan, having a family picnic in Mueller Park Canyon, going to Lagoon, getting pedicures and massages with Jenise and Kristina, a healing and happy visit to your house on Jonas’ birthday when JP and I came to town when my sister lost her baby, your sweet phone call from Missouri after my brother-in-law died to let me know you were thinking of us and that you cared (I know those two weren’t the happiest of memories, but they meant a lot just the same). Walking around Riverfront Park in Spokane, hiking to see a Canadian waterfall on Thanksgiving, jumping into a freezing cold Lake Pierre, and then back in the hot tub at the end of November. I know there are many many more memories, and I’m grateful for ALL of them. Thank you for always being there and for being you!
                                                                                                            I love you, Mary

Jenn had the enviable position of being the model child that Jason and I didn't quite measure up to!  This entire account will have aspects of humor and loving sarcasm, but full of truth too. Jenn has the patience and good nature of Job as I have rarely given her a break from some good-natured ribbing.  It's all in jest and yet the reason is such that I really do look up to her and wish I could have it all figured out like she seems to.  She follows her convictions and stays true to her values.  She is mindful and thoughtful regarding the needs of others.  She is a faithful wife and devoted mother.  She exercises unreal self-control with treats (Halloween candy lasts over a year!  I was basically forced to pilfer her supply to prevent it from getting too old and making her sick!), keeps herself healthy, active and balanced, and still manages to teach the same to her boys.  All this while she makes the meals, shuttles them around, helps in projects, advocates for her family in every way, and tirelessly supports them.  When I think of all the amazing things Jenn does day in and day out, I feel both lazy and tired!  For all the good she does in the world and the trying circumstances it can present, I've never heard her complain, judge others who don't accomplish even half of what she does in one day or seek praise from anyone.  I've always appreciated the fact that Jenn has many simple pleasures that make her life full and rich.  From verbally expressing her excitement about a food dish, describing how delicious it is while eating, or reminiscing on how good the said food item tasted, mealtime is never dull with Jenn around!  Even culinary adventures that turned out to be failures make fond memories (like the Fresco menu line at Taco Bell!).  The same goes for movies!  Whatever the genre, Jenn's persona and experience of a movie transcends herself to influence those around her.  It's movie time on steroids! the comedy is that much funnier, the drama more dramatic, slight scares are terrifying and the suspense may just leave Jenn's fingernail marks in your arms.
I've never once worried about whether Jenn will fulfill all the goals she sets and hopes she has. She simply does.  She's been a great big sister to me and has given me the amazing privilege to spend time and influence (positively, I hope) her sweet boys.  I love you Jenn and am grateful that you're stuck with me since we're family, ha ha!
- Your little brother

Happy Birthday Jenn! Hope you have a wonderful day and are able to enjoy many fun things! Just want you to know that I am very grateful for your friendship. You have always been so sweet to me. You are always so kind to make sure everyone is included and genuinely care about others. I truly admire that about you. I love that we have such fun memories together and look forward to many more. You are such a darling mom and a great example to me. You deserve every good thing that comes your way. Sure love ya! Happy Birthday! Taylor Winzeler

What can I say about the best neighbor I have ever had. I prayed for good neighbors to move in and Heavenly Father blessed me with so much more. An amazing friend!!  Jenn, you are such a great person. I have loved our talks across the streets and all the other times I have been blessed to be with you.
You have a sincerity about you that makes everyone feel comfortable and loved. I love your enthusiasm for life. You are truly an inspiration to me.  Thank you for your example to me. I love, love, love you!!! Our family thinks the world of you and we consider you a member of the family. Happy birthday my sweet friend! Love the Casebolt's

Dear Jenn,
Happy Birthday my beautiful friend!  I hope you have a day filled with fun, happiness and lots of celebrating!  You deserve the best birthday!  I can’t believe we are turning 35, where did the time even go?  I guess what they say is true “time flies when you are having fun!” HaHa I feel like we have truly grown up together and now that we are in the trenches of motherhood and don’t get to see each other as often as we would like I still always know that you are there for me and always feel your love and concern for me.  I hope you know I am also always here for you too.  You have truly been one of the greatest blessings in my life.  I always tell people I was blessed with the most amazing friends who were always such good examples to me and who have helped me become the person I am today.
You are such a fun, happy and positive person.  You see the good in life and in people.  You are such a kind and loyal friend and I have been so lucky to have you as a best friend.  Friends make such a huge impact on life and I always pray that my girls will have the blessing of having as good of friends as I have been blessed with because if they do they will have a happy life, they will be influenced to make good choices and they will go far in life.  Thank you for your example and for always accepting me for who I am.  Thank you for all the fun times and all the laughs!  Thank you for the late night talks about boys, parents, school, and now our kids and husbands!  I cherish our friendship and all our memories!
When I think of our friendship and all the memories over the years I just don’t even know where to start.  As I looked through old pictures of high school and college a wave of memories flooded my mind and I couldn’t help but smile.  We had a lot of fun in high school and just really enjoyed life during that time of our life.  The dances, the sleepovers, football games, stomps.  So much FUN! The road trips to Saint George and Vegas, the girls trip to Hawaii so many adventures and good times.  All the late night talks, I appreciated you always listening and understanding, it was so nice to have a great friend whether times were good or times were hard.  I am so glad we got to be roommates up at Weber.  I still laugh that we lived in the dorms there.  Those were some crazy days that really opened our eyes.  We met some interesting people and learned to live on our own.  Shane still teases me about the “deer humping” experience and the fact that this was the only time we have ever had a run in with the cops.  He says we grew up in a bubble and I totally agree that we did and I am so thankful for it.  Funny how silly experiences like that really teach us and help us grow and also make us laugh years later.  I remember all the days we walked across campus together, the late nights in the library (even the scary night when you passed out in the bathroom, living in our apartment with Brooke, throwing parties, “skinny dipping” in the pool, dating, homework… so many memories that I hold dear to my heart.  You have been with me through thick and thin!  I love you like a sister!  Thank you for being there through it all!  I am so happy to see your life so good.  Your family is beautiful, you are truly a wonderful mama to your adorable boys!  You continue to be such a good example to me and help me want to be better.  Thank you for helping me stay close the gospel and be true to myself.  You are a wonderful person and I am so glad we have stayed friends through all these years.  I remember when we talked about being old ladies rocking on the porch together and I still look forward to that one day!  I hope you enjoy the pictures and they bring back memories of so many happy, fun times.
Have the best birthday my sweet friend!  And by the way I think we need another girls trip to Hawaii some day with all of us!

Friends Forever!!
Love - Malia

Happy Birthday! I hope your 35th is your best year yet!  You are always upbeat and positive and find the positive in every situation. I'm very blessed to have such an incredible sister who's always thinking of others and I know Kristina, Hazel, and Gwen are extremely grateful for your sweet influence too.

Here are a few random and and fun Jenn memories:

Having to protect your candy, cereal, and any special treats by stashing them in your room. Although I thought it was very annoying at the time I don't blame you now because Steven and I would always tear into the goodies and they'd be gone within hours! (Kristina can totally relate.)

Your maternal instinct kicked in at very early age as you were always making sure I was on my best behavior. I kept you busy because I was rarely on my best behavior. I'm sorry that I would unleash the "bossy cow" nickname on you. I guess all that practice is part of why you're such an awesome mom to rowdy boys today!

Your sweet (mixed in with a dash of mischievous) side was on display early in your childhood when you dared me to do a flip on the tramp in the dark. The result was blood and carnage and you felt a heavy load of guilt. You wanted to do everything you could to make things right and in your mind that was emptying your piggy bank and trying to pay me off. I still remember how bad you felt and your level genuine concern for my well-being.

You have a lot of love to share with those around you. Most recently I will cherish the memory of sharing with you a rare and sweet moment bedside with Gramps. He is always serving others and for a brief but important moment in time we could serve him. You lovingly spoke to him and did everything in your power to make him as comfortable as possible. I will always remember the feeling of love and peace that we experienced together that day. I will be forever grateful that I could share that moment with you.  I love you Jennifer!
Love,
Jason

Happy 35th Birthday Jenn!  As I looked through photos that I wanted to share with you, I was struck by just how many wonderful adventures we’ve been able to share together.  I remember when I very first met you when I came up to stay with Brooke.  You were Brooke’s gorgeous, bubbly, friendly, upbeat roommate. And I still see you as that same gorgeous, bubbly, friendly, upbeat person today!  I instantly liked you which I have no doubt is common with everyone you meet.  When you said you wanted to set me up with your brother, I was pretty psyched because I already liked you so much!:)

Our first adventure I can remember was the trip to Hawaii where Jason proposed to you.  Of course I remember the cockroach in your room and cuddling up in your (twin?) bed with you and not being able to sleep!  I remember going to church in our flip flops, hikes, eating out, and yes the graydisgusting eggs I burned for everyone!! I will never live that one down, haha!

Since that time, we have had so many adventures including the cruise (remember our crazy cruise director in the picture?!), the Grand Canyon trip, Mexico, our girls trip back to Virginia, Time Out for Women, and Montana just to name a few!  Some of my favorite memories from the cruise include dancing, sitting in that lounge until the wee hours of the night talking, our catamaran ride, and yours and Jason’s squabble over politics! My favorite memories from the Grand Canyon include the unrewarding splashes, our hikes out to the scenic potty, hikes to waterfalls like this one in the picture, crashing our guides’ party and dancing with them (haha), and the helicopter ride.  I could literally go on forever about that trip!  My favorite memories from Mexico include kayaking out to the island and me barfing on the way back in!  I was so embarrassed and you were so nice about it.  I also remember doing our “yoga” class at the clubhouse since the one we wanted to go to was canceled.  I remember eating that lobster and fresh guac and chips while the mariachi band sang to usand of course the fresh fish tacos from across the street.  The trip to Virginia was one of my favorites.  It was wonderful to spend one on one time on our flights out there just talking and laughing.  The 10k still is my very favorite race.  I remember you saying you hadn’t trained and then not surprisingly you ran way faster than both of us haha! I am so thankdful that you started the tradition of going to Time Out for Women.  It has been uplifting and the perfect break from the world.  I loved going to Montana this summer and going on a bike ride with you and Mary.  It was the perfect time to be together and talk without the chaos of our kids.

Of course the memories I have mentioned have all seemed like grand adventures, but we have also had so many fantastic times together just doing the simple day-to-day things.  My favorite adventure we’ve shared is that of motherhood.  I admire you for so many reasons, but the top reason is because you are such a good mom!  You have unending energy and are so organized and structured with your kids.  You were born to be a mom and I have learned so many good things from you.  I am so thankful that you showed me the way and that Hazel and Gwen both have Wright boys their same age.  It has been my biggest blessing to watch our kids learn and grow together.

As I think about it, I could not have asked for a better sister-in-law.  I know you have always been sad you don’t have a sister, but I truly think of you as my sister.  I love you and admire you and am eternally thankful for you.  Thank you for your example and for all of the adventures we’ve shared.  I know there will be many more!  Love you!!

Dear Jenn,

Happy 35th! I am so grateful you were born! When I think back on my childhood, I love that I have so many memories that include you, even though we lived far away.  My first memory is probably Washington D.C., where the infamous song writing started.  "No Food or Drink" was definitely a rocky start to our song writing careers, but we didn't have much material to work with at the ripe age of nine, while standing in line at the White House.

I remember Hogel Zoo, where "Sad Gorillas" happened.  I remember your blonde curls, and being so jealous of your hair and your beautiful blue eyes. I love that even when we didn't see each other for awhile, we could pick up right where we left off.  I remember spending the night at your house you had to put on Vicks and take a drink as the very last thing you did before you went to sleep.  I would purposely ask you question after question just to secretly laugh at your nighty routine.  You didn't have a sister, so I got the privilege of being the obnoxious cousin who would do things like that.  We would watch "The Sound of Music" and avoid Jason and his crazy hair and weird friends.

And then, our teenage years, which makes me laugh and cringe at the same time.  I remember you coming to visit, and your first night at my parents house I was so tired I feel asleep while you were talking to me.  Then, sigh, our "Great America, Sara and James, staying up late, all night long, praying for no rain" song.  Somewhere in those years we went to EFY (Kent Ferguson Crew! where you were the blonde ditz and I was the airline stewardess), had our hearts broken (Chuck), pierced our cartilage, took professional pictures at the mall with a white ladder, figured out who we were and gained our testimonies.  We went cherry picking, to Seven Peaks (insert funny/embarrassing story here), flying in Grandpa's plane, and stayed up way too late in the bedroom in Grandpa's basement, which is where I must say, our best song came from. "Up In the Sky" has serious potential.

I love that we went to separate colleges but studied the same thing-how to teach children.  I love that you would come visit and we would pretend to be a lot older than we were (thank you, Sara) and sneak into dance clubs.  You were the sugar, I was the spice, and we were a fun duo. We went to Smith's to get our first cell phones together. I remember you calling me from Hawaii the day before my wedding, telling me you wish you could be there, that meant so much to me.  I remember wedding dress shopping with you, adding 3/4 sleeves to your dress, and having the sisterly privilege of going with you to take your bridal pictures.  Then after your pictures we came back to Grandma and Grandpa's house where Grandma was sick in bed and she got to see you in your dress. I remember your wedding day, you were the most beautiful bride.  I am so grateful we have stayed close and even though we don't get to talk or see each other often, we get to meet up on a cruise to the Bahamas, or the bottom of the Grand Canyon for another adventure, or sit on a back porch and eat Swig cookies, and it feels like no time has passed, although it sure has. Husbands and seven children between the two of us don't happen overnight.

I feel privileged to be your cousin.  I feel so sad for people that don't have a good relationship with their cousins.  It's because of you that I try really hard to foster my kid's relationship with their cousins. Thank you for being such an integral part of my childhood memories, and I look forward to making more memories together in the future.  Happy, happy birthday.  You are beautiful- on the inside and out.

Dear Jenn,

Looking back on our friendship I now realize what a blessing you have been in my life! To have a best friend in Junior High and High School right in my backyard was such a blessing and so much fun. Sometimes on Sundays we would set up a blanket in the backyard and relax. I remember making no bake cookies in your kitchen and playing catch with the cookie dough, your cat (or was there more than one??), and of course your messy bedroom. The trips to the mall, the Ford Taurus, EFY, and listening to Q99.5. All of it helped shaped who we are and where we have been, it was good and there are many more good times to come. Thank you my dear, and I wish you a very happy birthday!!

Love,

Mandie

Jenn,
I remember when I first met you in our marrieds ward in college I thought you were so beautiful, and not only on the outside, but the inside too. You were so kind to everyone with a glow of happiness. I wanted to be your friend! Sure enough, somehow we got to be friends... I think through visiting teaching?  I'm so grateful for your friendship and the fun we had as couples in college.  I feel like I missed out on a true college experience because I went to Weber State and lived at home instead of with roommates. I wished I could have had those experiences, but in all reality, I still came out of college with amazing girlfriends and that is because of you, Melinda, Candace, Aly, Taylor, and Jill.  We have shared all about our lives, as if we lived together... I mean we've seen Aly's boobs and lingerie shots of me... so that counts as college roommates, right? We went on group dates not with our boyfriends, but our wonderful husbands. The back of the moving truck and out for dinner has to be at the top of my list of memories.  I'm so grateful that you've always tried to keep in touch with me even though we've lived out of Utah since college. I find that incredible really that you guys have made it a point to keep in touch, and you are one of the best at doing that. Always commenting on fb, texting or calling to make sure we get together.  There is always tons of laughs when we are together, its like we see each other all the time, but in reality only once or twice a year.
You are an incredible mom; so dedicated to those boys and making sure they are living up to their full potential. I found it amazing hearing your schedule a couple summers ago with what your day consists of with soccer and all the things you're involved in.  Those boys, including Jason, are so lucky to have you.
Thank you for still being the beautiful person I first met. Still gorgeous on the outside and even more incredible on the inside. God most definitely gave you the gift of happiness and being a shining light to everyone you are around. Lots of love and hope you have a wonderful 35th birthday my dear friend.  Mwah! Jen Barnes

Jen,
I hope your birthday is the best. Thanks for always thinking of everyone on their birthday . For the cute cards the kids make and the time you take out if your day to do it with them . You are a great mom and a great example to everyone . Thanks for always supporting my family and my sons when they left on their missions . You and Jason are such a strong example of being Christ like . You always give service where ever you can and never expect anything in return. You are a great mom and your boys are going to grow up to be amazing missionaries and fathers . I am so glad Jason married someone so sweet and caring. I hope your day is the best because you deserve it . We love you and your family.

Happy Birthday

THE “PERFECT” CHILD, WELL ALMOST

When I recall Jennifer’s growing up years, one word comes to mind – “Perfect”. While I never could quite anticipate what shenanigans her two brothers might get involved with, Jenni seemed to do what she should when she was supposed to do it. It was almost as if she operated from some “model child” handbook. When friends complimented us for having the perfect child, I did have to add “well, almost”. While there were but a few instances when her actions would cause a parent distress, two are indelibly etched in my mind.

First, there was the “thievery” incident. One day Jenni arrived home from grade school and soon became very emotional. It seems she arrived home with one of the school’s pencils that she had “borrowed”. While I was thinking “hey, it’s only a pencil”, Jenni had run to her mother’s arms sobbing that she was a thief. I attempted to explain to her that sometimes people innocently forget and arrive home with work materials; but the only action that would soothe Jenni’s burdened conscience was to confess. So, we marched over to school the next morning and Jenni admitted her crime, returned the pencil to her teacher and awaited punishment. Her teacher merely took the pencil and said “thank you dear”. No detention time or anything. Finally, it became clear to Jenni that she was not a criminal.

Then, there was the “bumper car” spectacle. One day I was giving Jenni a driving lesson as she was preparing to get her license. Everything was going perfectly until she made that first left turn. The actual turn went well; it was the straightening out phase that went awry. Instead of proceeding straight ahead, she drifted over to the right and was repeatedly bumping her way down the curb. I told her that we all make adjustments as we learn a new skill and that everything was fine. That is, until the flashing lights appeared behind us. The officer walked up and questioned “what’s going on here”.  I said “just a driving lesson”, while Jenni looked sheepishly at the officer. He assessed the situation, said merely “have a nice day” and walked away.  I only wish all my conversations regarding traffic violations went as smoothly.

So, while raising Jenni was quite a pleasure, there were a few bumps along the way. We as parents, in all honesty, had to admit that she was actually almost perfect. -- Dad

Probably the memory that is forever etched in my mind is the one I have of Jenni at Grandpa Dale’s 80th Birthday party at Pismo beach.  I watched as so many of her cousins were “uncomfortable” with the long laps since the last “family time together.” It was obvious that some of their lives hadn’t fit in the “perfect Mormon family album.”  Some were noticeable uncomfortable.   Jenni didn’t let anyone feel “standoffish”.  I watched her as she was so genuinely interested in each of them and their lives and children.  There was no judgement in her, just so much love for each of them.  She glowed as she personified all that was good about motherhood.  I remember being at the beach and looking over at her.  There she was sitting cross-legged in her cute little maternity swim suit with the biggest smile on her face and so radiantly happy. You could see the sweet teamwork as she was helping Jason keep tabs on the 3 little busy boys while she was still (despite all the hectic activity) trying to utilize every precious moment sharing with all the girl cousins sitting in the circle with her.   I still can close my eyes and see her there.

The other memory that stands out in my mind is the one when she was trying to let Scott know that he was going to be a Grandpa for the first time.  She had prepared a gift for him that gave the secret away that she was expecting a child, but Scott wasn’t catching it.  She had gone to a lot of work to let her Dad know and was so excited.  Even though she was greatly disappointed that he wasn’t catching the drift, she was more concerned about making Scott comfortable and being kind and loving to him than she was concerned about her own disappointment.  She has always been that way with her Father.  She is so kind, loving, and gentle with him.  I admire this so much in her.  The scriptures tell us that when Christ comes we will know him by his loving kindness.  I have thought of that scripture a lot as I watch Jenni work with her boys, Jason, and her Father.  She is an excellent example of Christ’s loving kindness.

Jen, Happy Birthday! Thanks for being my sister. I remember when Jason showed me the ring he was going to ask you to marry him. My first thought was holy cow you have tiny fingers. I'm so glad you are part of the family! You and Jason are great together and you are a great mother to my nephews. I still don't know how you have such big baby boys!
You even came to Lake Powell 8 1/2 months pregnant- now that was fun.
Just want you to know that I love being your sister ( not just sister in law). Happy 35th!
